Analysis of Student Videos

Student Music Videos -
https://youtu.be/ZycwCBJkx5o

Two out of the three videos I looked at were pop music video. I did this because I want to design my music video around a pop song, and so mostly looking at just this genre was more helpful. However, comparing to other music videos of different genres, the videos have a relaxed atmosphere by not having a complex story. One of the music videos I looked at didn't have a storyline and the other one did, which exaggerated the situation of love.

From the first music video I looked at (He Wasn't There - Lilly Allen), I liked the idea of the whole music video where the camera didm't move and the sets/props were brought on and off by different people. However, the mood of the song would have to fit with this for the full effect. It was have to be quite a girly song and has a love theme.

I liked the last music I looked at (Shark in the Water - V V Brown) because the location worked very well with the song and stayed interesting for the audience. However I learnt that more than one location works better to keep it even more exciting for the audience and for the singer herself otherwise you may be repeating the same things over and over again.

I also learnt that camera angles are best changed to the beat of the song which is fairly often. Long takes can seem quite boring to the audience as it makes it dull after 3 minutes. Even if it's just a change of angle from a close up to low angle, it's better than keeping it simple and quite plain.

This task will help plan my own video because I could see what others did well and not so well. As other people will be at the same skill level as me and have similar equipment, I  could plan my music video will similar shots and editing angles. Also I could include elements of how they performed their narrative and see what level they got to to make it look professional.
