Inspiration
Why
We decided to change the narrative of our music video because to us it felt like the music video will take a long time to film as there was loads of different locations which required us to go into the city of Bristol to film which is difficult to plan. The actors we originally chosen had a busy schedule which meant that it was hard to get them together on one day, even though it was just two actors as well as myself and someone else who is working on this project with me.
Also we felt like the narrative would look too conventional for a typical love story. Even though this would mean that we followed the codes and conventions of a lot of music videos, it doesn't show us expressing our own ideas and adding a personal touch.
After exploring different music videos and analysing the lyrics in more-depth, it made us come up with a narrative about two dancers. The main inspiration is from the video which is linked above and it shows the two people, including Ed Sheeran (Main singer of the song) who dance in a professional way throughout the entire video. Even though we wouldn't do this for the entire video, I helped us come up with the narrative of our video as parts of the songs has a similar beat and speed.
As a love story in a music video we still wanted to keep the idea, but have a different type of love instead of a relationship between a boy and a girl. This is why we decided to have the story about two people who have the love and passion for dancing. To makes it a lot more connected with the performance, we decided to use the main/lead singer in the band to be part of the music video. We thought that this was important as lot of love videos focus on the female singer but we want to move slightly away from the codes and conventions to create our own style and hopefully make people more interested. To reinforce this idea, we have decided to hide the girl's face to hardly see it in the music video to clearly show that the focus is on the boy and his emotions.
New Narrative
The storyline we have changed it to is that the two dancers are separated from each other because as a pair everything goes wrong and their dances are not improving. After realising that there is a dance show and nothing goes right for either on their own, they decide to re-join together to rehearse for the show which has increase their determination to win.
